Duck season ended 2 weeks ago for me. We ended up with one of the best seasons we have had in quite a few years. I haven't crunched all the final numbers yet but looks like we averaged around 9-10 ducks/day. I'm always happy if we average 5 per day!!
We did not end up killing anything unusual but we did learn some things that will help us in the future. Out of all the days we hunted, we put out spinning wing decoys 1 day. That made no difference other than the mallards not finishing. We did use the Higdon Swimmers a few days when the wind was not moving the decoys and we use a Mallard Machine every day.
Not as many teal this year as usual, but more Mallards and more Gray Ducks than usual. Woodies held their own. Ended the year up with a banded Hen Mallard the next to the last day we hunted.
As always, I'm glad it's over but I hate to see it go!! I'm ready to fish but I know it will be 10 months before I can climb back in the blind and look for my beloved fowl to be cupped up and gliding into the decoys.
Hope all of you have a great off season!!
